"May blessings be upon the head of Cadmus, the Phoenicians, or whoever it was that invented books." -Thomas Carlyle
Welcome to my virtual book collection. Since collecting actual books is somewhat cost-prohibitive, I've begun to amass all of the books I would love to have if I had the means. Some are new, lots are old, all are unique or beautiful or unusual or in some other way have captured my fancy. Enjoy browsing!

Each volume has a heart-shaped centerpiece featuring characters from the fairy tales, with the theme repeated on the lower covers. The spines are decorated in similar art nouveau style and are lettered in blue.

The Black Cat, May 1899
Boston, Shortstory Publishing Co., 1899.
The Black Cat was a short-story fiction magazine from the late 19th century. The covers all featured a black cat and were nouveau in style. I found several sites with cover images to view, here (from the Ellis Parker Butler website, although I can’t quite determine if he was the illustrator or he was just published in those editions) and here. A quick google search didn’t turn up much about this publication, so I shall have to do some further research.
This edition is notable for containing A Thousand Deaths by Jack London. This was London’s sixth professionally published story and the first for which he received any payment. Jack received the then huge sum of $40 for the 10-page tale.
Samarkande - 20 Compositions en Couleurs dans le Style Oriental. Seguy, Eugene Alain. Paris, Charles Massin, Librairie Générale de l’Architecture et des arts Décoratifs, (ca. 1925).
Brilliant series of colour pochoir plates with floral designs in Art Nouveau style with an ‘Oriental touch’ by Eugene Alain Seguy (1889-1985), one of the foremost French designers at the beginning of the 20th century. He worked in both the Art Deco and Art Nouveau styles and published many design folios utilizing the pochoir technique, a printing process that employs a series of stencils to lay dense and vivid colour. The designs could be used for fabrics for dress and furnishing but also for wallpapers and carpets.
